Announcements

-Updated School Calendar – While we work to change the downloadable school calendar on the web, please download the latest school calendar: ISK_Calender_2011-2012 – Revised

-New High School Tardy Policy – Please note the following:

The high school is adopting a more carefully articulated tardy policy.  It is hoped by the high school staff that this will encourage students to make a greater effort to reach class in a timely manner.  Currently, several students are late on a regular basis which interferes with the efficient running of classes.

The policy reads as follows:

  • Each term, every student will be allowed a maximum of five tardies in any given class;
  • Tardies will be counted at the beginning of the day (8:00) and at the beginning of each lesson;
  • 1st offense over five – 15 minute lunch detention with Mr. Jesper on Wednesdays;
  • 2nd offense – 30 minute after school detention with Mr. Newell on Mondays;
  • On the tenth tardy, a parent meeting may be requested;
  • Students will not attend their after school club until detention has been served;

Excused tardies – only when there are extraordinary circumstances or a doctor’s note is provided by a parent.

ISK International Cuisine Night

July 21, 2011 By ISK Office

ISK International Cuisine Night – Autumn Term – Saturday (actual date to be confirmed)

Following from the success of the flea market, the plan for the next school function is to have a highly enjoyable day, where teams made up of ISK parents and teachers, cook their regional dishes during the day at their homes in groups, and then we have a get together in the evening at the school to sample each other’s efforts (along with drinks, entertainment etc).

(Download the ISK-INTERNATIONAL-CUISINE-NIGHT Flyer)

Teams should have representation from the region in question, but can be made up of people who simply want to learn to prepare that style of cuisine. Minimum number of contributing team members should be six but could be more.

Dishes should reflect the nation/region’s cuisine, otherwise open. Suggest each nation should produce at least one dessert plus a minimum of five savoury dishes.

Teams should also include drinks i.e. wines or spirits typical of the region.

Dishes would require to be labelled with the regional name (and translation where applicable), the major ingredients and whether vegetarian, contains nuts, spicy etc.

Each dish should be a ‘sampler’ with approximately eight portions amounting to a three course meal (i.e. savoury would be similar portion to tapas or a small starter).

Depending on numbers of responses to each team suggestion, we intend to condense the total number of teams to eight and the evening ticket will entitle the holder to one dish from each table (we will give guidance on the volume of food required once we know the numbers). There will also be a number of drinks tokens for exchange at any table. Finally there will be a voting slip so the team who produces the most popular dish(es) will get prize.

We would appreciate that those travelling back to their home countries this summer to return laden with genuine local delicacies / ingredients i.e. from the source.

Note: Major expenses whether for food or drinks can be claimed back in the form of tickets – nobody should be left ‘out of pocket’.

We would also appreciate anyone with diplomatic connections to request their help in this area – donations will be generously reciprocated in the form of tickets to what we hope will be the best value culinary experience of the year.

The purpose of the function is community building and to welcome new members of the ISK community. However, should any funds be raised on the night, these will go straight back into school facilities.

We need to get as many people as possible involved so please respond ASAP with your preferred team and ideas for dishes & contributions.

You can respond to this mail or to the PTO president on iskptopres@gmail.com.

Thank you for your help.
