ISK Board Changes
Dear ISK Community:
I am writing to inform you that I have resigned from the the International School of Kigali Board of Directors, in my capacity as member and president, effective June 17th 2011. My appointment to the Board by the US Ambassador to Rwanda ends at this time. This timing will allow for my attendance and active participation at the Annual General Meeting for 2010-11, prior to a timely handover to my replacement on the Board.
The Ambassador has appointed Mr. Charles “Chuck” Pill to serve on the Board effective June 16th 2011. His bio is below. Chuck is a great addition to the Board, and I am confident that you, as members of the ISK Community, will enjoy working with him.
When the school was established in 2009, there was a consensus by the founding members regarding the importance of systematically rotating Board membership, so that the institutional memory of serving members is complemented by the new ideas and approaches that new members bring to the Board. My resignation at this time reflects this value, and it also coincides with the end of the 2010-11 school year, and the finalization and public presentation of the independently audited financial statements of the school. The timing also allows for fresh and continuing input to the Board prior to a visit by the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges early in the 2011-12 academic year, which will be the first major stage in obtaining the simultaneous accreditation by both bodies.
I believe that the ISK Board has worked hard together as a team dedicated to developing our school into a center of academic excellence here in Rwanda. While there are inevitably further improvements that can be made, I am proud of what we have achieved, and I look forward to being an active member of the ISK community as a parent during the 2011-12 school year.
Charles (Chuck) Pill
Chuck joined USAID/Rwanda in February 2011 as the Senior HIV and AIDS Advisor. Prior to arrival in Rwanda, Chuck worked as a country manager and team leader for health and HIV and AIDS services delivery, policy and advocacy programs with governments, civil society, faith based organizations, and the private sector. He has worked in more than 20 countries, and previously was a Senior Population and Environment advisor to Turkey’s largest nature conservation NGO, and assistant to the World Bank’s Urban Transportation Advisor. His roles in civil society have included president and treasurer of his neighborhood civic association in Arlington, Virginia, USA, religion teacher at the Unitarian Church, member of the community emergency response team, painting and construction supervisor at Washington DC canoe club, and a suicide hotline listener. He and his wife Carol have one child at ISK, entering first grade, and two older children at secondary school and university in the USA. He holds Masters Degrees in urban and regional planning, and organization development and knowledge management.
Thank you,
Paul Kaiser
